Dojčenie a maloklúzia (poruchy zkusu)

The relationship of breastfeeding to oral development and dental concerns.
Westover KM, DiLoreto MK, Shearer TR
Department of Biochemistry, School of Dentistry, Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland.
Infants' oral muscles are exercised strenuously in suckling. Breastfeeding contributes an important influence on the thrust and growth of the mandible, in addition to imparting maternal immunological components in the nutritious milk. Infant feeding practices may affect the life-long health of the child. Appropriate, health-promoting practices, such as breastfeeding, should be encouraged by healthcare professionals.

Infant feeding practices and occlusal outcomes: a longitudinal study.
Davis DW, Bell PA
Pacific Region, Medical Services Branch, Health and Welfare Canada, Vancouver, B.C.
This study was undertaken to determine the relationship between infant feeding and occlusal outcomes. One hundred eight subjects born in 1983, whose mothers participated in the survey of infant feeding, took part in the 1988 survey of oral-health. A strong association (chi-square = 7.47; p = 0.006) was found between exclusive bottle-feeding and anteroposterior malocclusion.

A link between the way of feeding on the one hand, and the Angle class findings, the spacing of deciduous incisors, malocclusion-normal occlusion and overjet and overbite on the other hand, has been examined on 272 children aged three years +/- two months who have been divided into two groups according to the way they were fed in the post-natal period (one group was not breast-fed and the other was breast-fed for the first six months). A chi 2-test has confirmed a statistically significant link between the variables such as the way of feeding in the post-natal period and malocclusion-normal occlusion, Angle class and overjet.
